Lowestoft, Oulton & District Canine Society - Members Limited Show

Let me first of all say how very honoured I was to be asked to judge at this wonderful show.  It was very well organised, friendly and great competitors who handled their dogs with great care and consideration. The rings were a little small for the larger dogs to show movement at its best but the dogs who showed under me where a credit to their owners.

I was a little taken aback at the truly wonderful thank you gift at the end of the show and I will treasure it always.  Onto the awards and critiques as follow:

BEST IN SHOW
There were many excellent exhibits under me for Best in Show, but I could not deny the wonderful male Border Terrier, Docwra’s Bandicoot Doc Martin, only just over a year old but oozed quality.  Good moderate skull, with correct ear placement, scissor bit, good straight forelegs and the right amount of bone.  Strong loins and feet were of correct thickness for padding. Ideal Harsh and dense coat and moved with amazing gait. He has great expression and I had no hesitation in giving him this award.  Very well deserved.

RESERVE BEST IN SHOW
Bowden’s Gillbryan Singapore Orchid.  Beautiful 5 year old golden retriever bitch. First glance at this female fills the eye with the wonderful correct coat with correct featherings. On going over her she did not disappoint and had correct texture to undercoat. Presented in great condition. Well chiselled head with no signs of coarseness, very feminine. Good length of neck, correct eyes with dark rims, correct tail set and good level topline when moved.  Lovely free flowing movement.  Also very well deserved placing.

BEST PUPPY IN SHOW
Simms Arcticskies Showstoppa Siberian Husky.  11 month old male.  Having grown up as a child in pastoral breeds (Samoyeds) I was happy to see such a quality husky come under me. He gave an immediate impression that he could do a days work even at such a young age. I was not disappointed when I went over him.  Typical friendliness on approach, head and skull of correct proportion. Right amount of stop with correct almond shaped eyes. Lovely expression.  Correct shaped ears, correct placement of ear and well furred outside and in. Scissor bite.
Good forequarters with correct well laid back shoulder and in good muscle condition. Good level topline of medium length and good strong body with correct rib which allowed for good movement action.  Loins in good muscle condition and correct croup length. Well covered feet and correct tail.
Movement excelled once the handler was slowed down.  A reminder to exhibitors of this breed that although it is best to run this breed at a moderately fast trot, it should still be a trot, moving these dogs too fast does nothing to show their true outstanding gait. Something to bear in mind for the future so as not to wreck a dogs chances in the big ring. Once this boy was slowed down slightly he took command of the ring with his wonderful movement, making the complete package.  Will look out for him in the future.

RESERVE BEST PUPPY IN SHOW
Seago & Gibbards Amlida Spirit, 8 months old smooth haired Dachshund (male).
Quality boy. Lovely head of correct size, long and conical with correct ear placement and good expression. Short forearm strong in bone. Good prominent forechest with good depth.  Correct length of body into full strong rump. Good correct texture to the coat which was gleaming.
He had good gait with the correct amount of drive from the hindquarters.  A pleasure to give him reserve Best Puppy in Show.

BEST VETERAN IN SHOW
Buckles Silghari Kangyur At Karshok ShCM – 8 year old male Tibetan Terrier.  Super dog showing extreme grace and excellent movement in the ring, Flowed around the ring, i had no hesitation in awarding this.  See the critique above for AV Non Sporting Veteran for full critique.  Very Well deserved.

AV HOUND
Puppy, 5(0ABS)
  1. Frost’s Gabledene Simply Solo 7 month old female  Whippet.  Very feminine bitch with correct long lean flat skull, correct oval shape to the eye.  Teeth of correct bite.  Very expressive face into a long arched neck.  Correct width to the front and forearms straight and upright. Good deep brisket and tail of correct length. She moved with good action and correct gait and topline for the breed standard. Must have a promising future, really takes the eye.  Was happy to aware Best AV Hound and Best AV Hound Puppy to this pretty bitch.
  2. Alton’s Kiersha That’s Showbizness. 8 month old Smooth haired female Dachshund.  Good head with lovely set ears, good length of neck and correct scissor bite.  Correct degree of angulation to forequarters and arms lying close to the ribs as required by the breed standard. 3. Waller’s Wrennalla It’s My Party – 7 Month old Whippet.
  4. Dove’s Amlida Aston = 6 month old smooth haired Dachshund.
This puppy class had some of the best heads in hounds I have seen. It was a difficult choice on the day but felt the whippet excelled more in movement on the day.

AV NON SPORTING VETERAN, 7(5ABS)
  1. Buckles Silghari Kangyur at Karshok ShCM. 8 year old Tibetan Terrier male. Lovely well balanced dog. Head of correct length and width with the correct amount of stop. Correct dark brown eye. Good ear placement. Good medium length neck which flowed into a great topline; which was again correct in length. Very lovely furnishings with the right texture to the coat. Moved with great drive and a picture of elegance on the move.
  2. Hitcham’s Stagbatch So Smart – 7 year old Great Dane male. Well proportioned male with lovely expression for the breed type. Good head with correct bridge and head planes. Lovely arched neck, good straight forelegs with correct brisket. Loins good and strong and second thigh of correct length and well muscled.  Moved well considering the size of the ring; however I think the ring size did restrict him and would have liked to have seen him stretched out over a bigger area.
On the day the Tibetan Terrier gave a much more complete picture overall.

AV SPORTING VETERAN, 2(1ABS)
  1. Frosdick’s Didn’t We Almost Have It All with Laoko – 8 year old Bassett Hound.  This beautiful Hound had already been under me in other classes, still looking super at this late stage of the day, nothing more to add to the previous critique but still giving 100% in this class after a long hot day.
